Unpaid overtime?

I left my last job because it was common practice to work more than your contracted hours. Big city job with salary to suit… but detrimental to my personal health. I vowed to never work more than what I was paid for again. I'm now ~2 years into my current job, absolutely love it and feel valued. However, it's an R&D start up, and it's getting to the point where if we're not overworking – we may go bust and lose our jobs. The forecast (which I don't think is uncommon in startups), is that once we get the tech nailed down it'll be clean sailing. I don't think my current employer is exploiting us, and understand they may be between a rock and a hard place. However, I really don't want to fall into a similar spiral as my previous job. How do you think I should continue? Thanks
