[UPDATE] Finished My First Week – Feeling Guilty for Not Being Constantly Stressed Out

This week felt like a dream – I am constantly pinching myself to make sure it's all real. For starters, I have my own office!!! It looks great and has a great view of the downtown area to boot. I get to work from home the majority of the week if I choose to – office hours are from 9-2, so the work day goes by in the blink of an eye. My coworkers seem nice, although the age difference is huge – most of the people I'm working with have worked at the office since before I was born (and then some). As of today, I've finished my first week as the Manager of the Student Legal Services Department at my alma mater.

One red flag is that the attorney that initially interviewed me warned me that the receptionist (who is twice my age and has been there for several years) applied for my position… and is not happy. She was diplomatic this week, so hopefully that doesn't boil over.

Aside from that, the biggest thing I've felt this week is guilt. I feel guilty that I have not been bombarded with information and thrown to the wolves my first week. I feel guilty that I'm not constantly answering calls and getting yelled at by random clients. I feel guilty that I'm not stressed out. I talked to some of my ex-coworkers from my previous post, and we all feel the same way…

To anyone stuck with a tough job right now, you deserve better. There are amazing jobs out there that need your expertise, and they are willing to treat you better. Best of luck!
