Allow me to propose a possible narrative being pushed to further cause division between the US and EU workforces – which I believe should, regardless of creed or industry, be gladly trying to learn the best from one another.
That is the concept that (which I disagree with – as blanket ideologies never really fit): US programmers/devs/tech workers – who are better paid – are “broish”, jocular, superficial, spend too much on appearances and create frivolous technology solutions, whilst living high on their own egos. Alternatively – their EU counterparts (who are less well paid) are: humble, frugal, modest, and more “simple and to the point” with their work.
I'm not quite positive on why anyone agrees with the memes being shared to this effect – as I know from first hand experience that the technology workforce is extremely varied in terms of ideologies, backgrounds, and personalities (as you'd expect in many workplaces, especially in fields as dominated by California landscape). However, I have a guess that it may be related to a certain EV Vehicle company's CEO's recent run of behavior as well as the very inappropriate behavior that has occurred recently at companies like Blizzard and the greed at companies like Activision (hey would ya look at that).
Anyway – I think we are collectively being fed a narrative that has gotten salary/wages tied to it somehow and we ought to snap out of it and realize that it's all in our best interest to look beyond our own personal prejudices and see we should all be treated attempting to make the best possible gains for ourselves and one another regardless of each other's perceived “taste”. Besides, if ever there is resentment about the high pay of many of your colleagues in the field – keep in mind the company is still taking home far too much of even that person's hard earned work. We all deserve equity.
