Utilities, credit cards, and student loans will be flexible when you’re having money problems, but landlords will try to put you on the street if you’re 10 days late

I have to have major surgery next month, won't be able to work for a few weeks, and work freelance so no sick time. I contacted my landlords to figure something out, assuming that they'd work with me since I've been a perfect tenant for 6 years. They suggested that I apply for rental assistance, but no organizations around here have funding because we're in the middle of a housing crisis. Their next suggestion was that I move in with my mom and when I'm better, I can find another place to live. They know my mom lives in Louisiana (I'm in PNW). After discussing this with them, they still recommended I move in with my mom despite me spelling out for them that I wouldn't be able to get my surgery in Louisiana and I couldn't afford to move there anyway. They even said it wouldn't cost much to move if I sold the stuff that couldn't fit in my car (a super old Corolla).

They unequivocally said that if the rent wasn't paid in full next month that they would pursue eviction. So basically, this older “Christian” couple who have known me personally for six years are less willing to be flexible than the anonymous banks who hold my student loans and credit card accounts. Capitalism at its finest
