I’m trying to get a grasp on the idea of fair wages because of all the “discuss your salary” posts.
Should pay be based on a salary schedule that’s reflective of education, training, additional training/certifications, and/or experience? Or should everyone doing the same job make the same?
I’m just trying to get a handle on the concept. My nephew was complaining that he’s only getting $17 an hour at an independent coffee house (think Starbucks but WAY more pretentious). He’s upset because another barista who does his same job makes $27 an hour, but she’s been there 12 years. He claims she has no additional responsibilities. So, I don’t know. Please educate me (politely)!
