Wage = “small part of a bigger package”

My boss took me out to lunch yesterday. The company is trying to hire another person for a different location and she was shocked when they held open interviews and not one person showed up. She said she was mad that HR put the hourly wage ($16/hr for a job that “prefers” a Bachelor's Degree) on the ads for the job because “the wage is such a small part of a much bigger package” and then proceeded to go on about how we have great benefits etc. While I wanted to scream I reminded her that “I get that we have decent health insurance, but also my bank does not accept Blue Cross Blue Shield as payment for my mortgage.” Wage should be a large part of the overall “package”. It's like… Why I drag myself to a pain in the ass job every morning. End rant.
