Wait… I should not be on call right now….

Friday before last I went to the ER with shortness of breath, some chest pain, dizziness. Cat Scan revealed a serious issue that was going to require a stay in ICU. As I was waiting to be wheeled up I contacted my boss and team via Teams to let them know I was being admitted and to have someone take the on call phone – I work for a government LEO and we.have to be avail 24×7. I was told it was being transfered so I allowed myself to drift off. I was in the ICU for 48 hours and was being moved to a step down unit when my phone rang, I was in a much better state of consciousness and answered it – it was an off hours work call requesting some service, I explained that I couldn't help them, and why, I gave them my bosses number.…

I was told it was being transfered so I allowed myself to drift off.

I was in the ICU for 48 hours and was being moved to a step down unit when my phone rang, I was in a much better state of consciousness and answered it – it was an off hours work call requesting some service, I explained that I couldn't help them, and why, I gave them my bosses number.

I got home mid week last week, took it easy, and after my post hospital checkup called my boss to give him an update – he was understanding, and apologized for me being called.

I made sure to tell him that since I was technically on call for that 48 hours I was in the ICU I should get credit, and most importantly paid for it.
