Wait, you’re MAKING me quit?

I worked at a group home for at-risk adults. I had one resident who really enjoyed verbally assaulting me all day long, week after week, and for the most part, I found it amusing more than offensive. He hated me and I didn't care because this was a job and not a popularity contest. However, one day when I turned my back to him, he hit me with a metal folding chair. It dazed me pretty good but didn't knock me out. Hurt like hell, too. I told my supervisor that I needed to be moved to another house and I was not working in this one anymore. I worked at a group home for at-risk adults. I had one resident who really enjoyed verbally assaulting me all day long, week after week, and for the most part, I found it amusing more than offensive. It dazed me pretty good but didn't knock me out. Hurt like hell, too. I told my supervisor that I needed to be moved to another house and I was not working in this one anymore. She approved the move but told me I “had to stay through the week in the current house”. Well, no can do, because it's not safe (first and foremost) and I have to rest for a couple of days (doctor's orders). So she says, “Is that your resignation?” and I say, “No” and she says, “So you'll be there in the morning?” and I said, “No” and she said, “So is that your resignation?” (lather, rinse, repeat this conversation until all reason has left my body).

By the end of the conversation, I had said, “If that's my only option, then I guess it is”. In the morning, I filed for unemployment, met some resistance based on their attestation that I “quit”. Once I explained the circumstances to Unemployment, they approved me. But, they sent a copy of that approval (with my account of the events) to the owner of the company (and not HR) which led to the owner calling me to offer the job back (no dice) and the HR woman getting fired.
