Hello all, was looking for some advice.
I resigned from my job just under 3 weeks ago. In my state, Colorado, employers are required to give you your final paycheck on the next scheduled payday. However, if it’s been 14 or more days, I can file a report. Today is day 14, it’s been 2 weeks exactly since the scheduled payday. I’ve been trying to collect my paycheck for 2 weeks now, my old boss keeps giving me the runaround. They also owe me just over $16k in commissions. My questions are: 1. Should I continue to try and collect that paycheck on my own? 2. Is it time to get someone else involved? 3. If it is time to get someone else involved, who should that be? A lawyer, the state, someone else?
I really need to get my paycheck this week at the very least, the commission is something I imagine is going to be annoying af to try to collect even though I’m legally entitled to it. I don’t want to get taken advantage of. The last thing I want to do is go through the legal process, I don’t have the money to pay for a lawyer, are there any alternatives? I’m located in Denver, CO.
