So I work in MD. And in the state of MD (maybe other states idk) you get unpaid sick leave. Basically it’s a safety net so that way if anything unexpected arises medically or family wise you can call out without being fired but you don’t get paid. I didn’t know this until this morning. The company I work for offers sick time and PTO after 6 months. My pay stubs say I have 28.36 hours accrued. Keep in mind I put in my two weeks notice last Friday. So I asked if it would be paid out next week when I left (I was under the impression I was accruing hours but just couldn’t use them until after 6 months) My boss shows up to work and asks me what’s going on so I explain to him the situation and he fired me. I think he’s mad that I didn’t accept his counter offer to stay with him. When his counter offer was only 50 cents more than what my new job is paying me. Oh and my new job is actually my career and what I went to school for.
