Hey guys. I got a trucking job back in February doing day hauls for a local grocery chain in the Northeast. When I was applying for the job, I was told that one weekend day was required. Since I wanted the money I said I’d work both weekend days for the time being.
I approached the supervisor recently about switching to one weekend day a week schedule and was informed that the policy had changed and that everyone was required to work all weekend. The job is heavily seniority (union) based so apparently all the more senior drivers would be upset if I got a weekend day off instead of them.
I know what you’re probably thinking – just ditch the job, there are a million trucking jobs out there. The only issue is that this is both the highest paying and closest job to home in my area, and the work culture is overall great and filled with hilarious and salty old truckers who are generally a joy to be around. Lots of drivers retire here so I’d like to figure something else out before I ditch the gig for something else.
