I recently applied for a job as a kennel attendant, got an interview soon after, and I THOUGHT I was offered the job but then the lady ended up ignoring me for like 5ish days, and then told me they had hired everyone they needed.
I had worked at another dog daycare for over a year prior so I know I was very qualified. The interview was kind of weird, the lady didn’t really ask me any questions about my qualifications, she just showed me around the facility and went over what my duties would be, and then asked what my preferred shift would be. I told her I could do any shift I’m needed at. At the end she told me to send her a confirmation text that I did indeed want the job, so I thought I pretty much had this one in the bag. I actually stayed a bit longer to chat with her and one of the managers about my time at the previous place, why I left, the differences I noticed between their setup and the one at my previous job, and basically casually emphasize my qualification for the job. Since the place hadn’t officially opened yet it was just those two ladies and a guy doing maintenance there, so they weren’t super busy and seemed happy to have a bit of a conversation. The manager even asked me something along the lines of “oh so you have previous experience? That’s good!” Which indicated to me that they hadn’t really gone over my resume and were just looking for kind of anybody semi-qualified to work there, but whatever I thought, they’ll be paying higher than my previous job. As I was leaving I even said that I was looking forward to start working there, and the lady who interviewed me I think said something like “see you soon.”
As soon as I got home I sent her the confirmation text. Then nothing for a few days. I sent her another text to check in and make sure I was still being hired. No response. Two days later I actually called the number to ask what was happening, she didn’t pick up of course. Finally the next day she just texted me that they hired everyone they needed and wouldn’t be hiring me.
It was super disappointing because I feel like if they had actually looked at how experienced I was then I probably would have been more of a preferred hire than at least some of the people they went on to hire I’m sure. Why didn’t she ask me questions during the interview? I could have easily shown I would be an asset to them, and I thought I gave them a sufficient taste of that with our conversation at the end.
And why did they have to wait so long to tell me that they weren’t gonna hire me? The whole thing just sucks.
