Went to an interview about 40 minutes away from my house. It was advertised as a manager position for a tech sales company that worked “closely” with Verizon. When I got there I got immediate red flags. First one was that they decided to interview two people at once. Me and one other girl. Keep in mind this was my first ever professional interview since I had only been hired by amazon since I got out of highschool in 2021.
I didn’t know what to expect. So he asks us both to tell him a bit about ourselves. We do and then he goes into a long drawn out spiel about how wonderful their company is and how beneficial to us it would be to work there. (without labeling any actual benefits) So my hopes were already dashed because it felt like he was just trying to sell us the position rather than us being able to sell ourselves to the position like in a normal interview.
He then started writing on a whiteboard behind him our estimated pay and schedule. For the short end of it we would earn $14-$16 an hour with the POSSIBILITY of bonuses and commissions working 6 days a week Monday-Saturday. At this point I knew obviously This was not a manager role but rather a work to possibly become a manager within maybe a year but I wanted to stick out the interview for both skill development and experience as well as pure curiosity of how far they would go to hiring us.
I straight up asked if they were a door-to-door sales company and he dodged the question by saying that they didn’t do any type of calls to customers and that everything was residential. He started stuttering and getting nervous by this point and the other person being interviewed asked what he ment by residential. And he answered that it means it was door-to-door sales. I’ve completely checked out of the interview now and am upset that they knew full well how far I lived (due to them asking how far my commute would be in the 5 minute call interview) as well as knew the skills I have since they had my resume in hand. They wasted my time, effort, and skills. There’s so much more to the story but I didn’t wanna drag this out to long.
If anyone is curious about the company name, it’s called Innovative Promotions.
And please to all the people young and old looking for jobs, please don’t fall for these scams. They are a waste of time and pay little to nothing for the effort you have to put in. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
