I’m a truck driver and currently in between jobs because my previous employer did not have enough work to keep me at full time hours and it was to the point where I was only working 2-3 days per week.
So I had a potential employer reach out to me and was interested in hiring me. I took their drug test, did all of their paperwork and watched all their videos (which took hours) and then I put in a 2 week notice to my previous employer which was set to end on 4/4/22. However, last week I only worked on Monday and Tuesday at my previous employer and then they told me they didn’t have any work for the rest of the week. So I reached out to the new employer and asked if I could start on Thursday 3/31 instead of Monday 4/4. The lady initially said “That should be fine if you want to come in at 10am on Thursday to finish the hiring process.” I agreed. Then late on Wednesday afternoon she just abruptly texts me “I’m sorry, I’m going to have to reschedule our meeting for next week.” So I hesitantly agree and wait until Monday. I messaged her on Friday asking when and where I’m supposed to meet on Monday or whenever the following week. No response. So then I message her again yesterday letting her know I’m available all day and can finish the hiring process at any time. No response. Called over 3 times; straight to voicemail. Then 4:45pm rolls around and I’m getting really antsy and restless about the situation. So I call the office main line and explain the situation and they told me they’d let the lady know I called and she’ll get back to me tomorrow.
About 20 minutes later I finally get a text from her saying: “Hi good afternoon John, I apologize for the delay I’ve been sick. But I was just made aware today that All hiring has been put on hold until further notice. I apologize for the inconvenience I do have an agency and also another gentleman that is currently looking for drivers if you’re interested?”
Now I’m completely stranded and have to wait another week for this other job to get my background and drug screen back. 2 weeks now without pay.
