The national media has found r/antiwork and, as usual, have distorted what this subreddit is all about. They go as far as to describe the subscribers as lazy miscreants who want to be paid for not working.
So, attention you misguided journalists, here are a few things that r/antiwork has done to raise awareness of the many, many ways in which corporations (capitalists) have exploited their workers:
- The bait & switch on job postings. “Pay range is X to Y” when in fact they never intend to offer Y as a starting salary.
- Speaking of salary, putting an employee on a salary and then working them so many hours, their pay is at minimum wage, or lower.
- “You cannot discuss your salary with your co-workers, or else!” In fact, r/antiwork has pointed out that prohibiting employees from discussing salaries is illegal.
- “You cannot talk about unions!” Yes, you can.
- “A couple of your ungrateful co-workers have quit, so you're going to have to carry the load, but you won't be getting a pay raise…” r/antiwork has shown this is a common tactic and should not be tolerated.
- “If you don't like it, I will accept your resignation…” No, as an r/antiwork patron, we know better. You are going to have to fire me so that I am now able to file unemployment.
Alright, this is just a start. What are some others?
