I used to take 2-week vacations 2-3 times a year prior to covid. I just started traveling again but this new manager I have approves vacations arbitrarily, and there is no system. Most places want a 3-month+ notice but this place doesn’t like that. In fact, if you request too far ahead, it will be ignored until a month out from the date you requested, and even then you have to remind her to review it. I think she favors the staff that does overtime hours for her.
I can call out for short stints, but I prefer 2-3week vacations. Even then, I’m not the type of worker that calls out for no good reason. I’m not known as a worker that calls off.
Someone told me I could take FMLA, but I’m not sure how that works. If I have to call in everyday for that, I wouldn’t like that because I’m on vacation, don’t want to deal with that.
I’m considering somehow getting a doctor’s note, but I would like to know all my options before coming to that.
