I’ve been currently looking for a new job, I work as a bar manager, and I’ve been hoping to transition to sales of beer/wine/spirits. A natural change, with a 9-5 schedule, most weekends off; all of which are things I don’t have now. This week, I asked a rep if they had any positions open, because I was “considering” a change. Well that rep happened to know the owner of my bars sister. Then said sister called and informed my bar’s owner I was inquiring about jobs. Rewind 4-5 months ago: I had an interview for a sales gig with a local distributor, fast forward to present: the owner of the bar I work at called that distributor asking if I had talked with them about a job. The distributor answers truthfully, and says yeah we interviewed him, he’s been looking for a while, it didn’t work out for us. This propels the owner of the bar I work at to post my current job on indeed as available immediately. He didn’t talk to me about this beforehand either. A couple days later the owner and I spoke on the phone and “cleared the air” the post was supposed to come down and it hasn’t yet. He doesn’t want me to leave, but I said I wasn’t going anywhere right now or the foreseeable future. I’m hoping the post hasn’t been taken down only because it’s the weekend and not because he’s lying to me. Hypothetically, he could be telling me everything is ok, but planning on hiring someone to take my place. I want to leave, but I don’t have anything lined up right this moment.
TDLR: I inquired about new opportunities for work, my current employer found out. They posted my job as available without speaking to me about it.
