Imagine an app where you can not only apply to a job and not worry about getting rejected during the onboarding, but that there barely is an onboarding. You can see jobs available in your area and further and see the duration of how long you'll work, what you'll do. Not only that but you get paid immediately upon clocking out, and if you dont want to work there again no problem, pick a different job available tomorrow or the next day or whenever you want. I reference wonolo because thats the only one of its kind like that, that ive worked for. Jobs could be anything from helping a store after hours one day, to stage crew for 2 days to a 4 month gig, you see all the sign on details from pay to location and time before accepting and all you have to do is hit accept or keep scrolling for something better.
If most workplaces adopted this (not a temp service the actual business) i believe we'd be better off mentally, knowing we could just quit and take on something else, or just make enough in a week then do nothing for two. The freedom would be breathe taking. It wouldn't work for all people, and not all jobs or careers but like a massive percent of them from fast food to stores to factory to delivery drivers. The pay wage would need to be addressed beforehand but i think capitalisms would help since the business never wants to go under they'll try to compete with each other over prices and conditions for the employee since they now have to show the best ways for someone to work there, want to work there, and actually stay or not feel guilty leaving or taking sick time, like you would a routinely scheduled shift expecting you to always be there.
No more- you work us for 6 months then we'll treat you better, maybe, or this is a contract job, or the forcefulness of simply having a schedule but wanting a life outside of work especially those 2nd shift people. You see the prices per day, paid per day, have no long form obligations and getting new or better paying jobs is something you would be able to do literally tomorrow. I don't know how to collapse the workforce for this kind of change, but if a temp service can do it then it can be done again bigger and better and for consistency it could health coverage too and a higher ones after some time and a “premium” clause that you have to work at least 10 days out of the month to qualify for, that way you make your schedule mostly but theres not too many vacancies.
Seems like an idea, but is it possible, fuck if i know. But i want it
