What new labor laws do you want to see?

Having worked retail ever since I entered the work force, it’s shocking that for how far the US has come, there are still so many laws that really screw over people who work irregular hours. I thought it would be interesting to compile a list of laws that should be changed or made to better support people who work such positions -legal minimum number of hours between shifts should be twelve. Where I live it’s ten, which gives you pretty much no down time whatsoever between shifts. If your commute sucks, great you speed home, get five hours sleep and come back the next morning. It sets a very bad precedent for scheduling, especially these days where retail is as understaffed as its ever been lower the number of days a person can legally work in a row with no days off. • lower the number of days a person can legally work in a row with no days off. Where I live it’s 21 days, which again sets a really bad precedent. Most I’ve done is 13 and after that I decided I flat out will not ever do that again. It allows management to abuse their best workers, and I’ve heard of situations where an individual is treated like dirt for having the nerve to ask for a day off

  • make Labor Day a required day off. There is absolutely nothing more ironic than having to work on Labor Day, which I’ve had to do every year since I went full time. It would be nice to have a guaranteed day off that isn’t Christmas

  • this last one is partially a joke, but some law about only being able to play Christmas music the week of the holiday would be incredible. I’m convinced that if a team of psychologists sat down and studied the long term effects of corporate Christmas playlists they’d see a net negative impact on the workers
