What the grandparents expect…and what we can afford

Just had another exhausting conversation with Boomer parents who are far more reasonable than some, but still refuse to understand why their children still aren't doing as well as they did by 30. Their expectations of us in a nutshell: Ownership of a 2 bedroom house 2-6 kids (5 in my family) Stay-at-home-mom, full time What the average person like me can afford, IF we're lucky: Renting a 1-bedroom apartment without additional roommates, and all bills paid on time 1-2 housepets. A spouse who only has to work one part-time job. And they still can't understand. Even with gas prices so through the roof that my family is cancelling vacations. Or wages stagnant for so long and rent gouging so bad that my one aunt is illegally subletting her BARN to a couple families who were rennovicted out of their own apartments. It just gets so old, trying to explain…

Just had another exhausting conversation with Boomer parents who are far more reasonable than some, but still refuse to understand why their children still aren't doing as well as they did by 30.

Their expectations of us in a nutshell:

  1. Ownership of a 2 bedroom house
  2. 2-6 kids (5 in my family)
  3. Stay-at-home-mom, full time

What the average person like me can afford, IF we're lucky:

  1. Renting a 1-bedroom apartment without additional roommates, and all bills paid on time
  2. 1-2 housepets.

It just gets so old, trying to explain to people who can't get it.
