I worked at a car dealership as a “vehicle wash technician”. It was just a “title” as I wasn't a money maker.
We had a “customer service” meeting over one weekend. Just “how to improve the experience”. I made a suggestion about finding a detail in a customer's vehicle, and the GM says “oh, that's just awesome! Let's give him a round of applause!”
My best friend's wife was the receptionist, and we both looked at each other like “was that necessary?!”
I felt I had no worth there anymore.
COVID struck, I took a class while I was laid off, and they held my position. I informed them I was done classes and didn't get a response. I was called for a two week work placement (which blossomed into an awesome job op afterward), so I told the GM, and he said “congratulations! Benefits are terminated Monday….”
I understand that I didn't make the company money, but I felt so demoralized the first time, and upset the second because I knew what he thought of people “beneath” him.
