so right now i work at a preschool, as a pt assistant teacher. okay great, i recently graduated as well, with a degree in… forensic psychology.
i decided i liked working with children and the current montessori environment im in is great, but i cant pay any bills with it. so a few weeks ago, i applied for a job that pays way more and is full time and in correlation to my degree.
i told my employer, who also happens to be the ceo, the purpose of me leaving. which is wanting full time job, and also wanting to move out.
my ft assistant teacher and lead teacher are so great, and served as my references for the other job. the job is great, and i told her.
this is how my resignation went.
my boss: “okay. what if you get paid $17?”
i currently get paid $16.50
then she keeps going. “i can ask [ft assistant teacher] to work part time and give you full time. you get the benefits.”
and she did the math for me, suggested i get a roommate from work, etc.
while they were definitely suggestions, the one part that really struck me was that she wanted me to be ft. and basically take my coworker’s benefit. my coworker, who got both assistant and lead teacher trainings. the one who was promised a lawyer to renew her visa by our boss, the one who promised to assign her lead teacher to a classroom and instead offered the position to someone with no montessori trainings
i offered to think about it, never did. and told her i was still leaving.
i appreciate the “sentiment”, but FUCK why would i, 22, take the job of a woman with kids about to go to college. that is just so fucked.
maybe offer liveable wages to take care of children? seriously, what the fuck.
