There’s an Asian fusion fine dining restaurant that both my business and myself have been going to for a decade. Today I put in a business lunch takeout order and I paid with card. As I was signing the receipt, the host was holding her hand over the “tip/amount space” and I asked if I was able to write in a tip. The host got really shy and said that I could, but that credit card tips go to the house and that hosts only get to keep their cash tips. There were no signs saying that this was the case either. I left a cash tip and as soon as I got back to work I left a review saying if you get takeout to tip your host in cash as the credit card tips go to the house.
I’m both disgusted and angry. Hosts already make a low wage so for them to take the hosts tips is just gross. I don’t feel a negative review is enough and I want to call someone to report this as it honestly sounds illegal. I just don’t know who to call. I am located in Massachusetts if that helps.
