Let me be clear; I'm not sure if human beings CAN, (as a species, not individuals), handle a world where you can find no more work to do. Obviously such an existence is a little bit too “pie in the sky” for the present moment of history, but the day is going to come when everyone's job has been 100% automated, and as a result, no jobs in the modern sense will be available anymore. I don't think that would stop human beings from setting up various tasks to work at, though, I just think it will be a lot more personal than putting 9-5 in at an accountants office; things like maybe forging 1000 perfect replicas of the “+ULFBUR+T” blades using period technology, or hand carving a statue of the Bhuda from a single freshwater pearl, or something like that.
However, none of that is relevant to the original question in the title: what I see on the subreddit, is that we don't, by-and-large oppose any form of work whatsoever, but rather work that is stupid, monotonous, easily replaced with automatic systems, and unrewarding on an emotional, physical, mental, and above all financial level. All of us want jobs, but we want them to be jobs where if the company fired us they have to ban all our passwords and take away the key card, or we are going to come in the next day like nothing happened because we would rather be there than at home.
That's my stance, I'm wondering how much of the subreddit agrees with me, and why, or if they don't, why they don't.
