I’m sure I’ll be downvoted to oblivion. I bought a 2 family. Gutted it to the studs and put way more money into the house that it was worth at the time. I’ve rented to family and friends so far. I charge hundreds of dollars less a month than anywhere else in my area because I care about my tenants and like to keep them happy so they stay with me it’s a win win. One of my tenants is my sister in-law and her husband they had a baby in January. Guess what I did. Didn’t make them pay rent for January. This was my idea that I ran by my wife who was obviously totally on board.
So when I’m reading these posts and comments hating on landlords and seeing comments like “All landlords are bad” I just don’t get it. I know there are some shitty landlords out there just like there’s shitty cops, doctors, teacher, mechanics etc…
My plan is to put the home into a trust and give it to my kids so that they have, if they want, a place to stay for free in the future so that they have an easier life. If that makes me a shitty person for owning a rental property then so be it.
