Whenever I see someone let go, I always see people tell them to apply for unemployment right away. I'm just curious, does it hurt the company in some way, or is just so they don't fall behind on bills?
Context: I was fired two months ago and given 12 weeks severance. I didn't bother applying for unemployment, and I start a new job next week after taking a “paid vacation”. Should I have? It sounds like unemployment is a lot of work.
