This is really bothering me lately. Groupon and Dooly just laid off a huge portion of their employees.
Now, all I see on LinkedIn is like the same copy-paste template from everyone who got laid off. Goes something like this:
“Today I got laid off from X. It was truly a wonderful Y amount of years at X. I look back with gratitude and happiness at the opportunity of working with so many people who got laid off at X
If anyone is hiring. Let me know. I know many wonderful and talented colleagues who also got let go in search of a new home!”
Like what the fuck! Where is the rage! Where is the self respect! Why are people saying:
“Today I got blindsided and was let go from my company after years of hard work and grueling determination. By no fault of my own, the company mismanaged its money and huge influx of cash during the pandemic. Instead of lowering bonuses or cutting the salary of C-suite – I am being let go.”
Can we please get rid of the trend of being “grateful” to our employer for letting us go and instead shame them?!
