The staff providing direct patient care have the highest risk and responsibility. We’re exposed to infectious diseases(Covid, Hepatitis, HIV, Flu, etc). Nurses could accidentally kill a patient if they make a mistake, and go to prison. Even lower paid employees like techs risk injuries from lifting, or being assaulted by violent patients. Imagine making $15 an hour, doing chest compressions on someone with blood spraying out of their mouth, and it splashing on you. Later finding out they have Hepatitis or HIV. Even with PPE there’s always the chance a drop could get in your eye, affecting you for the rest of your life. You saved a life, but can’t even afford a decent place to sleep and shower after a 12 hour shift.
Meanwhile hospital executives rake in millions. For what? What skills do they have that are so important? Why so much reward with less risk? Let managers and recruiters hire. Automate the financial aspect with software and accountants. Hope the younger generations pushes for legislation to overhaul the U.S. healthcare system. Completely change the business model, with less focus on productivity. Hospitals are not factory’s.
