Why do people in the US persist?

I am very fortunate that I don’t live in the United States. Certainly, there are worse places to live, but as the self proclaimed “leader” of the free word I would expect better? I need someone to explain why you persist and how you reckon with: Some of the lowest wages in the developed world. Some of the worst benefits in the developed world. Sending kids to school thinking they could be ‘next’. Minimal social support (healthcare ect) Extreme separation between haves and have nots A constant desire by the rich to inflict more poverty on more people. Please help me understand!
