Hoping this is acceptable to post here. (It's also long)
So my partner works for this company that's going on strike soon. They have a few days strike planned over the next few weeks.
Where we live, there are multiple worker strikes happening in the next few months, different industries etc.
And we were chatting with her work mates about it the other day, none of them really want to strike as they won't be getting paid for the that day and everything is so expensive now. But if they don't strike they know it's going to be a very hostile reception from other staff/ union members. And yeah we all agree with some of the reasoning behind striking but a valid point was made.
Don't want to be too specific but upcoming strikes are train drivers, mail companies and waste disposal companies. And in each, the workers just don't turn up to work, maybe do a quiet bit of protesting about pay.
Who do the strikes inconvenience, really? Other normal working people just trying to do life.
Bins stop being collected? People left with overflowing waste.
Mail not delivered? People waiting ages for deliveries etc
Trains not on? Gotta find a different way to get about.
Do any of these strikes really target the people who pay our wages? The people who have the ability to change our wages? No.
On a strike day. Go to work. Find a way of doing your job for the people, the customers just like you. But find a way to fuck the company who won't raise you wages or give you acceptable hours.
Train driver? Wipe all train fees for the day, hand out free snacks
Waste/recycling worker? Collect all that waste and dump it just outside the gates of the landfill site.
