I’ve always been very careful with my money. I make every debt payment on time and try to stay top of things. I just got a letter from collections for $108 from the hospital. I owed $648 starting in November 2021 and requested to be put on a payment plan with a $108 monthly plan. Apparently because I didn’t respond to the email acknowledging my request I was never actually put on the plan. However, I’ve been paying $108 every month thinking I was on a plan. (I was at work when I read it and the first line of the paragraph said “Per your request, your monthly payment will be $108 a month” and I stopped reading because I had to go but apparently the last line said ‘after your first payment and response to this message will your plan start’) I freaked out and paid the balance that was left just now and noticed that my balance was $540 ($648-$108 sent to collections) – which then made me question everything —- where did my first 4 monthly payments of $108 go ($432)!?Did the hospital just think I was donating money? So now, after paying off the balance, I’ve overpaid them and still have $108 with the collection agency. It blows my mind that literally nothing in their system showed I have been paying monthly or nothing ever said “we have no idea why this person is paying this amount every month” No one ever called me and said “hey, you have this balance that hasn’t been paid but we see you giving us money every month” – I know this is anti work but this falls into the capitalist medical system screwing us. Now I have this collection on my record. Fuck the system.
