Why I wouldn’t work on certain Fridays.

I am a union tradesman. At a certain petrochemical facility known by its initials, they made a deal with the local unions to work 4 days, 10 hours a day at straight time rate. Thus is to decrease travel time from jobsite to bunkers, therefore getting more productivity out of the crafts while letting us have a 3 day weekend. Friday could be a make-up day for any reason. This deal was made, knowing that many holidays take place on Monday in the US. The refinery wanted us to work Friday to make up for Monday being off. The thing is, our contract has a double time for holiday pay. They wanted us to work straight time to make up for a double time day…. yeah right. And that's my little fuck you to the management that started as hands then moved up to supervision and forgot where they came…

No amount of pleading or begging could get myself or the others to work on a Friday that was only being offered to make up for a double time day.
