Why is every job interview like this?

Interviewer: “We notice that you change jobs roughly every so often. We're looking for a long term commitment.” Me: “No problem, as you can see I've stayed with several companies for longer terms, but had different positions within those companies. Interviewer: Oh right… Also, if we continue the company will offer a 6 month contract through a recruitment/employment agency which comes down to at-will employement and when that period was satisfactory they might offer a 6 – 11 month contract with another 2 month probation (but there's a good chance of being offered a permant position afterwards). That's just standard, everyone who makes it through the inital time of recruitment/employment agency, generally won't be reminded of their probation in the next contract, since by then the company will know how well you function.” Me: “Nevermind.”
