I work in a company where essentially we argue with insurance companies when they don’t pay for the patients care.
I’m on a team of about 14 people plus a Manager and Director. I’ve been here for almost a year and this is my first job out of college. I make just under $17 dollars an hour in an entry level position (This job has nothing to do with my degree), everyone else on the team who some have years of experience make between $13.50 and $15.00. Believe it or not, I actually make more than many people in the position above mine. Many people know they make less than me and seem annoyed but won’t do anything about it. I was and still am mad about how much I make (I feel it should be closer to $20 like I asked for) but knowing the rest of the team makes at the least a dollar less than me drives me up the wall.
Long story short we do a lot of unnecessary work and my team complains about it and we keep getting new SOPs (new ways of doing things implemented) that make our job harder.
We recently got the results back from a survey we took about our leadership and business and our team specifically, rated everything in the 20-50% satisfaction where the business as a whole is around 65-90%. Our team is the only one in office, 98+% of the company works from home, our team is the only that does not. My team is clearly dissatisfied with our jobs, are underpaid and are taken advantage of but when I try to get them to take some sort of action they agree with the issues but fail to agree with trying to actually implement change. What is it that I can do to change peoples minds?
I have a degree in International Relations and wrote dissertations and case studies on things like this. I think I have a lot of experience but I am blanking when it actually comes to reaching out to people.
Thanks for any help and if anymore elaboration is needed I am happy to edit. I also have a paper I wrote and sent to my leadership for anyone who is more interested in this case specifically that I can send to you.
