Why isn’t there a bigger exodus of American workers?

My question is mostly directed at the Americans here: what's keeping you from saying “fuck this, I'm out?” If you're part of this subreddit, you're fully aware of how undeniably horrible you're living and working conditions are, compared to almost every other developed country in the world. And you're probably not someone who falls for the typical “Murica is the only country that has freedom, fuck yeah!” bullshit. You're probably aware that language really isn't a limiting factor. My top guess would be social ties, as in friends and family, which is relatable. Though I would like to think I'd do whatever I can to convince as many people as possible to just come with me. There is always Canada “right across your doorstep…” And I'll just daringly assume you're old enough to know that you won't necessarily automatically lose all your current buddies and you will find new friends eventually.

Second guess would be a sense of obscure insecurity / being generally overwhelmed. In which case I'd like to encourage you, because I can't help but get depressed looking at the majority of posts here.
