Why the F don’t we get paid more due to inflation?

Yes the inflation is driving up costs for everybody and every company. Every other damn day I'm hearing about the company's vendors/suppliers increasing their cost per goods or services sold because the inflation/fuel surcharge/raw materials, and they accept it with no hesitation. They just increase their margin further and offset the increased cost, so it's the end customers forking over the extra dough. So why aren't the employees salaries/wages considered a cost? Why aren't the costs to have people working for you not increasing? Why isn't it built into our culture where we can just walk up to our bossed and be like “inflation is driving up my costs for living, so I'm gonna have to increase the cost of my labour by X amount”, and it's just reflected on the next pay cheque?
