Wife’s part-time employer has a mandatory training, firing anyone who can’t make it, no exceptions

This is more “mildly infuriating” than outrageous compared to a lot of the other stuff on this sub, but I thought you guys would get a kick out of it. My wife works part time for a health care agency. She just got a full-time job that she starts soon, but the HC company has a mandatory training that takes place on the first day of her new job. I just don't understand why you would have such a rigid, unnecessary, ridiculous rule like this. And be willing to lose a chunk of your workforce over it, when all you have to do to make it work is offer an ounce of flexibility. Management in this work culture seems to think that rules are more important than real life. It's mind-boggling.
