So after spending a year and a half at a Customer Service Job for an insurance company, I quit my job in the loudest way possible. I went on vacation for 2 weeks, came back for one day so they couldn't say I quit when I went on vacation, stayed after work feigning I was putting in over time for when I was going to missing work later in the week, and cleaned all my shit out.
I also sent a message to my Supervisor, Manager, and HR thoroughly explaining why I quit. Aside from the fact that we had been understaffed with an insanely high turnover rate for almost 8 months at that point (resulting in all of us who remained to pick up the slack), there was ONE member of the company who was notorious for their shitty behavior. I'd been having issues with this particular individual since 60 days after I started. And when I complained about this behavior, I was told “They have been like this since they came to work for us ten years ago. It's not personal and we've all been through it”.
… 10 years. You mean to tell me this terrible person–who is so troublesome that they will email the CEO to complain when CS won't break the rules for them and their clients–has been this way for the last decade with no consequences? When literally EVERYONE in the company (250+ employees) knows who they are because of their poor behavior?
I tried to stick it out, but between the work load that resulted in me being a month behind and the lack of action to correct this terrible individual, my mental health was at rock bottom. The burnout from the experience lasted until roughly July… and I quit at the beginning of APRIL.
So my final message was basically to say “I'm quitting because I'm overworked, under-appreciated, and this single person that no one will do anything about is making literally everyone miserable.”
I've heard bits and pieces of what has happened since I left (co-workers were interviewed, I was interviewed, someone else nearly walked off the job in tears, and now only supervisors and managers are allowed to deal with the individual) but honestly it doesn't sound like any meaningful change has happened or will happen.
Meanwhile I've just moved to a new state and I have started a publishing company with my friends so we can work towards being full-time authors and creators. Wish us luck.
