For context:
I work at Mcdonalds (I know sucky job as it is) and I have to do closes. So I’ll explain exactly what a close is. You start to clean the resturant for today’s events and then when the place is clean you go home. Theres usually Lobby close (customer areas, toliets, etc), front/bevarage cells, Kitchen and finnaly manager close.
Front/bevarages usually 1 or 2 people clean up in that small area. Kitchen, the most complicated and hardest close as it isually has most people in there 3-4 on a good day, usually 3 on a bad day. The manager closes alone, badically does money counting, stock check in the office, etc.
The reason I misses out Lobby is becuase that’s what I do and its related to my issue…
The issue I’m having:
So in Lobby, it’s almost always 1 person cleaning it alone. Sometimes on rare occasions 2 people. You dont need much help as its the easiest and very straight forward cleaning tables and toilets, mopping, bins. Though it’s the biggest area you have to do in the building. Plus as an extra take bin bags out to the bin shed.
I usually finish my close around 11:40pm-12:30 am on a good day. 1:00am on a bad day. Not too bad right? Well, I’d be perfectally fine with that if this were the case…
After I finish Lobby the manager goes and has a look around to make sure everything is correct. What managers are supposed to do is let you go home after you finish your close. (Only 2 good managers do this but I dont get their shift often). Other scummy managers say to help in kitchen. I dont know kitchen, I dont cook food or know how to clean in there.
They expect help until the entire close is done. This usually lasts to 2:00am, and it really bothers me becuase after a long stressful day starting at 4pm, I just want to sleep. Thankfully this hasent happned to me but sometimes people stay till 5am until the place is really bad and needs cleaning. I made a rule for myself, I refuse to stay later than 2:30am or I’d clock out and just go home without permission.
This job has ruined my sleep schedual. I now cant sleep until bs times at night when I gotta get up the next day for work.
Anyone know how I can avoid being made to stay longer when I finished my close? Recently I’ve been doing it slower and finishing later on purpouse so they dont ask more of me and so the ones in kitchen can hurry up. Either that I’ll start to hide away before saying I finished my close?
