So I used to do nights at tims for a few years. Its an easy job as they don't really watch the night shift so I ate a lot of stuff for free (one of my jobs was to dispose of unused food so I would eat a lot of it lol).
We were always a crew of 2 people on a very busy intersection. Not very busy at night but once 5am hit the store was packed until noon.
I only have 2 bad stories though because most of my memory of it is a daze because of how boring it was.
First story: Daylight savings time.
I was working with a new girl named Daisy. Everyone that worked with me knew I didn't like customers much so I would do the majority of the work (cleaning, making food, prepping coffee) and they would take the orders. I liked it that way. It kept me busy and they didn't complain because they didn't have to do much. But this night was when the clocks went back an hour. We both forgot until we saw the clock go from 1:59am to 1:00 am. We're both like “fuck are we getting paid the extra hour? Do we go home an hour early?” So Daisy tried to call the manager but it's 1 am again so he isn't picking up.
5am hits and the morning crew shows up and we start asking “are we getting paid the extra hour or are we supposed to go home now”. Morning crew was…. I gotta try to be nice because they were kind of nice…. But they were fucking rude about it because we asked if we're supposed to leave. “How are we supposed to do all the fucking work and deal with customers if you guys just leave an hour early”…. So we stayed… No I stayed… Daisy quit right there …
Manager shows up at 6am when my shift is over and I ask if I'm getting paid for the extra hour. His response was “well I looked at the time clock and it says you worked a normal shift so unfortunately that's how you're going to get paid”. I wasn't that mad because it's just an hour but in that moment I realized the company doesn't care about me. So I started half cleaning and half doing my job and nobody complained.
A little bit later a guy showed up in the drive through window and asked me if I wanted to make more money… I said yes… I never told tims I quit. I took that guys job and made more money.
Story two: CANADA FUCKING DAY
Short story. Everyone knew it was Canada Day. They still only had two people on nights. After the fireworks I had a fucking line all the way out to the street. People were yelling at us constantly through the headset. Luckily when they got to the window and were still mad we explained that it's just us and they would feel super bad and tip a lot. That night we made $26 each in tips. As opposed to the regular $3.50.
Thanks for reading folks.
