So my friend is dating a Mexican woman who is here on a work visa. Apparently her current job is an “under the table” kind of gig (and therefore illegal) at a resort town where they're really struggling to hire citizens because they know they pay shit wages but refuse to do anything about it. So they hire “illegals” to be grossly underpaid and overworked. Anyway, immigration did a big bust yesterday and took many of the staff away in handcuffs. The ones who remain will keep working until they're deported later this week I guess? Because God forbid they get to spend time enjoying themselves instead of working before being deported? Just seemed like a not great situation for these folks who come in and work hard and are treated like garbage from all sides.
