I was written up the other day at work for calling out 8 times in a year. For background, I’m a nurse. We’re not supposed to come to work if we’re sick because we have a lot of immunocompromised patients. My boss basically said that if I call out again before the new year I will be terminated. I’m terrified of getting sick now because I will have no choice but to come in even if I’m really sick or have Covid or else I will be fired. When i had the meeting with my manager I told her that all of the times i’ve called out i’ve been sick (or needed a mental health day but I didn’t say that to her) and she said she understands that but I still can’t be calling out that many times. She claims my absences are “excessive” and my attendance really needs improvement. I really don’t think 8 days in an entire year is that bad. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s just my opinion. Thoughts??
