All my life I had assumed salary workers had “made it”. That was what young adults had to look forward to, the big bucks. But, is it really just salary hopping to something better until you retire? What protections are there other than not getting reduced pay if sent home for the day.
They can make you work 14 hour shifts with no increase in pay, add on days previously not agreed upon, break what seem like common sense limitations.
I know the obvious ones like sick and vacation, but is that really it? The difference of three weeks or so paid vs unpaid? If this is the best you're going to get, what's the point?
My husband works six days a week, is gone for 12 hours a day, and now they want one person working Saturdays for the entire 14 hour shift by themselves, instead of the manager just pulling some weight and taking a shift once or twice a month.
What's the point if there's no life outside of work? What's the point if you miss your children growing? What's the point if your marriage falls apart because of your hours?
