Antiwork

Yearly reviews and pay raises are happening at my work next week. Can someone help me interpret my company’s financial statements? I am organizing my team to start asking for more compensation and trying to prime us with knowledge about where the company is sending its profits, if it’s not to us.

I work for a global bio tech equipment and chemical supplier and the covid pandemic meant that business has been booming for us. 2021 was our most profitable year ever, as it was for many companies. I work in the North America Life Sciences group and our 2021 yearly financial statements just came out: https://www.emdgroup.com/en/investors/reports-and-financials/financials.html I know a little bit about money, but not enough to actually understand accounting reporting. I'm looking for some help in finding some key figures that I can share with the rest of the team so that we are more informed about our company's financial well being from of all the excess profits they earned off our labor. I know a little bit about money, but not enough to actually understand accounting reporting. I'm looking for some help in finding some key figures that I can share with the rest of the team so that we are more informed about our company's financial well being from of all the excess profits they earned off our labor.

Can someone give some info on basic simple things to look for? Is there a single number I can point to and say “Here's what we did for you company, please compensate us appropriately.”

The things I am interested in knowing:

  1. How much money my company brought in, total revenue
  2. How much money they paid for labor
  3. How much money they paid to executives, chairman, and upper management.
  4. How much money they paid to investors in the form of dividends, stock buy backs , and other financial instruments
  5. How much money they have left over, money added to savings account?
  6. Total employees in my sector

If there's any other key information that would be helpful to learn for my purposes, please do tell.

I think my negotiating tactic will be:
“You made this extra money per employee, and you are only giving me this much, I want this much more.”
