Looking for legal ways to protect me and either my employment or my unemployment benefits, if I lose the job.
I am a Maintenance supervisor at a hotel, one of the housemen(someone who strips beds and does runs supplies for the housekeepers) has had issue with me since I've corrected him on the proper way to use certain tools necessary to work here. After having some words one day were I felt disrespected I brought it to the managers attention. She called him in there as well, and at the time, on camera, he threatened to fight me and made actions like he was preparing to. His employment kept after that day, and I was told to “be the bigger man”
2 days ago, I was on the phone with another supervisor, the same guy who tried to fight me, was eavesdropping on my conversation. Trying to get proof, I said something I knew he would repeat that would get back to me. Which happened, and after I brought it to the current manager and her boss, the both reacted like I was making it up, or it had to be someone else.
So, to speak up for myself, yesterday I addressed the employee, in the lobby to make sure it was on a camera with video and audio, my words were “My conversations are my conversations, I don't need you listening to my stuff, to run spread it and try to stir up problems” at which time he played dumb. When I confronted him with my evidence, the person he told admitting he was the one to tell him, he immediately got violent, trying to fight me, including taking off his jacket off, (which was baffling since both his arms were restrained, which is a bad way to start a fight) as he said “we gonna do this, this time. I already told you once”
Today is my day off, but I know he is still employed and at work today. It's just upsetting cause as lame as it sounds, I really enjoy this job and it's one I want to keep. I enjoy working with my hands and teaching my workers how to fix things, I like seeing them excel and receive raises or have the knowledge to move on to a higher paying position, or even just fix their own place if they have crappy landlords.
I'm just fed up, I cant work at a place were someone is actively violent towards me. I'd prefer not to go back to jail.
