You can only control what you can control

I am currently reading “Sedated; How modern capitalism created our mental health crisis” by James Davies. Its a cracking read and I the penny is dropping with the phrase “you can only control what you can control”. This is uttered all the time by the compliance manager of the company. As though it's a quick fix to alleviate stress that doesn't actually help. If my tools don't work, I can't do my job, I can't automatically switch my stress button off. Pretending that this is an option is just an excuse that has been used to absolve the company of the responsibility of operational problems and their impact on mental health. I used to swallow that shit before and think there was a problem with me stressing unnecessarily. Next time I hear it I think I'm going to let rip.
