I was working at this new popular place in my city’s downtown area. For my interview I was told I was only in charge of taking orders and making sure food was coming out correctly rarely having to make food. The hourly pay was great plus tips so I thought I had finally found my break. Of course I was dead wrong. Something that started off great just went downhill from the day I started. They sat us all down introducing themselves as a “fun and positive workplace” that “many in our industry are working in toxic work environments” then slapped us with all these rules charging us $100 a month for parking for full time employees and so much other bs.
One Saturday we were super understaffed. They had me working in multiple places at once prepping food, calling out orders, making sure they’re correct. Stuff I’ve never done before so I was rusty. It was chaos. The owners walk around eyeing you but never offer to help. In the middle of the craziness the manager lashed out and yelled at us in front of all the customers. I just walked away and continued on working. The next week they scheduled me for just 1 DAY with no notice or explanation. I’m rarely petty but I waited for the day I was scheduled to let them know I wasn’t coming and told them to take me off the schedule. I have no regrets.
