“yOu sHoUld Be GRatEfUl”

So i work at a petstore a this is my today's convo with customer. (opening scene) This old guy walks in, i greet him, he greets me and then he proceed to watch aquariums. A lot of people that enter our store obviously just came to see some animals and don't really buy anything, so i let him be and get back to feeding animals. If he'll want something, he'll ask, right? But dude is just standing here, hands on the hips, looking in my direction. So i eventually ( it was like 4 minutes tbh) ask him first: me: “Do you need anything?” him: “Well i wouldn't be standing here the whole time if not!” me: ” Oh ok, well you know…you could just say something.” (said completely normally) (you know, like ” Hey, can i get some fish?” and i'll be like “Sure sir, which one?) him: “…

But dude is just standing here, hands on the hips, looking in my direction. So i eventually ( it was like 4 minutes tbh) ask him first:

me: “Do you need anything?”

him: “Well i wouldn't be standing here the whole time if not!”

me: ” Oh ok, well you know…you could just say something.” (said completely normally)

(you know, like ” Hey, can i get some fish?” and i'll be like “Sure sir, which one?)

him: ” Why are you being so unpleasant? I'm gonna complain on you.”

me: (still calm) ” Ok. Go ahead.”

him: ” You should be grateful for having a job at these times. You definitely wouldn't get a chance to get one during First republic ! “(historical period in the Czech republic during 1918 – 1938).

me: ” Yea well, it's hard to be grateful for a job, where you are treated like a garbage.”

him: ” So why are you here, when you apparently shouldn't be ?”

(you know, because it's THAT easy)

me: ” Don't worry , i'm actually about to quit next month, so you won't have to deal with me anymore.”

him: “…it has to be such a nice job, working with animals, isn't it?”

me: ” Yes, it is. But being yelled at and told we sucks by customers several times a day, because we follow the policy of our company and being constantly asked, when we get this and this merchandise because we don't know since our company isn't able to restock – but somehow it's apparently our fault and then again being yelled at by our managers because we don't satisfy our customers needs and we don't sell as much as they'd like to see etc. So that part isn't nice. Anyway, what kind of fish would you like?”

The sad thing is, he was right. Because according to “our seller manual” when i see a customer, i should apparently shit myself because of it and praise him like a god so i get him buy more. I've failed as an employee, because “our customer is our master and our customer is always right”.

I'm so sorry, that i'm failing to be part of this society. Shame on me.
