Your company doesn't care about you.
I worked for a popular real estate tech company. I was told my job was secure, but after returning from parental leave I was laid off. I've never gotten a bad review, but that didn't make them go above the state mandated severance pay. I've won awards from the company, but that didn't change the 3 minutes of conversation I was given when I was let go.
I didn't crash our stock because I couldn't manage risk, but the CEO was able to secure a stock buyback. I didn't ok buying a customer an RV because a purchase mistake was made but the executives are all still gainfully employed.
If you're part of a union, they still don't care, but they don't have as much leverage.
I got this job after years of earning 30-45k a year in major retros with a hard science degree. I worked hard at those jobs, and maybe my boss cared, but despite all the cheer I've never spoken to a boss again after leaving a job for more a better life.
