I was a retail manager for a large liquor store chain. We had new locations opening and I was set to go to one. I had just transferred in from a smaller market and was told they had a ridiculous amount of experienced managers.
The groups were formed on which managers were going where. My store was lacking to say the least. I was the most tenured associate by far. Including my recently hired store manager who said “I have every confidence you’ll train me well to do this job”. Noticing that I was going to be training her and this store was set for double the volume of my previous store I asked for a raise. I got a no with an asterisk of helping me develop to the next promotion, still a no.
I requested for a transfer so I didn’t have to train this new manager and an entirely new team. Suddenly, I’m “too important for the market to move elsewhere”.
In true r/antiwork fashion, I wrote a nicely worded one week notice that equated to “fuck you, pay me”. The weight has been lifted boys and ladies. Thank you for the motivation.
